The man accused of tacklingonstage called the comedian’s routine “triggering” on Sunday.
In a Los Angeles jail interview, Isaiah Lee appeared to explain his alleged assault on the comedian May 3 at the Hollywood Bowl.
Lee, who has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor battery, told the tabloid he took umbrage at the comic’s jokes about the LGBTQ community and homelessness.
“I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering,” said Lee, who has been homeless. “I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect.”
Lee described himself as a single dad with a 5-year-old son, adding: “It’s a struggle and I wanted Dave Chappelle to know it’s not a joke.”
